How to Choose the Right Winter Coat

Winter is coming fast. Before you know it, temperatures will take a nose dive and snow will be in the forecast. Then it will be time to get the snow shovels and snow blowers ready! Survivalon® can help you prepare for winter with the perfect water resistant and windproof jacket. There's no reason to struggle through another winter with a sub-par jacket. Be prepared with a high quality jacket from Survivalon®. It keeps you warm and dry no matter what winter throws your way, from freezing temperatures to heavy, cold rain.

Lined and Unlined

Survivalon® offers both lined and unlined jackets, and both can be ideal depending on where you live. The lining determines the temperature range the jacket performs best in. Our unlined jackets are lighter, making them ideal for areas where winter temperatures are not very cold but there is the chance of heavy rain.

Our lined jackets, however, provide you with some extra warmth if you find the weather changing around you. These more traditional jackets work well when layering with sweaters or our Patagonia "down shirt."

Light-Weight

Most winter jackets are heavier because of the weighty lining inside. This can pose a disadvantage on some days, since temperatures rise and fall in the winter. On some days, the temperature can rise quite rapidly, making that big bulky jacket a real problem. Although our jackets sometimes look heavy, they're actually very light-weight and wear-in over time to become soft and comfortable.

All of our jackets feature a masculine look, and we promise the moment you try one on you will become a fan. They look great with a sweater and a pair of jeans.

Survivalon® Jackets Are Truly Water Repellent

Water Repellent

There are many jackets out there that claim to be waterproof, but Survivalon® jackets are truly water repellent. Our jackets are made with 100 percent cotton, breathable fabric that is treated on the face with silicone, making it water repellent. In comparison, waterproof jackets are synthetic, treated with synthetic coatings on the face or the underside with "breathable" coatings. In reality, these jackets can keep body heat from releasing, making you sweat and overheat while wearing it. They also wear out over time and need reproofing. When dirt and grime get on these types of jackets, they can be hard to clean, keeping them looking rather dirty.

Jackets made with waxed fabrics have a weathered look and claim to be waterproof or water repellent. Unfortunately, these tend to leave staining on furniture and need reproofing over time. The water repellent fabric in Survivalon® jackets, however, is perfect for many sports and outdoor uses. Because it's made from 100 percent cotton, it breathes naturally, making it extremely comfortable to travel in.
